Dr. Oyewole Oluwaseun is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Arts and Social Sciences Education, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He holds a B.Sc. (Ed) in Economics from the University of Uyo, an M.Ed. in Social Studies Education, and a Ph.D. in Social Studies (with bias in Economics Education) from the University of Ibadan. Dr. Oyewole’s research focuses on social studies education, economic literacy, entrepreneurship education, democratic values, teacher competencies, and the socio-cultural factors shaping learning outcomes. He has published widely in national and international journals and contributed chapters to edited volumes on education, citizenship, migration, and sustainable development. He has also presented papers at major academic conferences in Nigeria and abroad.
In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Oyewole provided academic leadership as Head of Department and Coordinator for the Centre for Research, International Linkages and Development at Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria. His scholarly contributions demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing knowledge in social studies education, democratic citizenship, and youth empowerment
Research Focus
Dr. Oyewole Oluwaseun’s research centers on social studies education, democratic citizenship, and economic literacy, with a strong emphasis on preparing pre-service teachers for active participation in democratic and global contexts. His work explores the intersection of media and political literacy, technological proficiency, and social media use as determinants of civic engagement and global adaptability. He also investigates entrepreneurship education, women empowerment, and social influences as drivers of economic awareness and sustainable development.
Additionally, Dr. Oyewole examines student learning outcomes, classroom engagement, and teacher competencies in shaping educational achievement in economics and social studies. His scholarship extends to pressing social issues such as streetism, the “Japa” migration phenomenon, gender equity in education, and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on teaching and learning. Collectively, his body of work contributes to advancing knowledge on how education can foster democratic values, global adaptability, and sustainable socio-economic development in Nigeria and beyond.
